On the evening of November 13th, the city of Paris was hit by a series of cynically planned and coordinated terrorist attacks. The brutal violence cost 130 people their lives. In addition, about 350 people were wounded, many critically.
Amid the horrors the American band Eagles Of Death Metal were playing a gig at the popular Bataclan Theatre. Halfway into their set, terrorists opened fire inside the premises. 89 people were brutally killed.
In interviews conducted in the wake of the tragedy, the band's founding members, Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes, have urged artists worldwide to cover EODMs song I love you all the time. All revenues associated with these releases will go to victims and their families.
To show our support for EODM’s initiative, and our heartfelt sympathy to everyone who in anyway has been affected by this brutal tragedy, Sugarfoot have recorded a version of I love you all the time. In addition, we also found it suitable to record our version of Nick Lowe’s classic (What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love & Understanding.
As outside observers to much of the world's brutality, we usually tend to feel powerless and small. It’s often difficult to find words to describe our emotions without leaning on what feels like too many clichés. In one of his classic songs from the 70s, Mind Games, John Lennon sings: "Love is the answer". And maybe when it all comes down to it, it really is as simple as that. The core essence of our existence is all about showing love; the love for life, love for our planet, friends, relatives and our fellowmen.
It is with such a perspective in mind we have embraced this musical charity. Together we are not small. We can actually make a difference.
We might not be able to solve all the world’s problems, but we can help boost a massive voice, coming from a whole world of artists, big and small, to show that we care, that we refuse to give up and that love is strong enough to survive almost anything.
There is absolutely nothing funny about peace, love and understanding.
